Swim activeCARIBE programme :
Swim activeCARIBE use an all-inclusive programme which takes the non-swimmer from his or her first splash to developing confidence and competence in the water. Swim activeCARIBE objective is to teach students in a fun, pleasant and stress free atmosphere according to ASA (Amateur Swimming Association) the National Governing Body for Swimming in England in line with the NPTS (National Plan for Teaching Swimming).
Swim activeCARIBE has been developed to use fun and games to take children from their first splash to full competence in the water via 10 Stages.
Awards System
The criteria for each of the awards have been set by the ASA a common standard throughout UK. Those who achieve all ten levels will have developed a wide range of skills and will be competent on all of the four recognised swimming strokes.

Level 1
Overview: Developing basic safety awareness, the "class" scenario, basic movement skills and water confidence skills.
To complete Stage 1 of the NPTS participants will be able to complete in comfort the following skills (with or without aids, equipment or support):
  1. Enter the water safely
  2. Move forward for a distance of 5 metres
  3. Move backwards for a distance of 5 metres
  4. Move sideways for a distance of 5 metres
  5. Scoop the water and wash the face
  6. Be at ease with water showered from overhead
  7. Move into a stretched floating position using aids, equipment or support
  8. Regain an upright position from on the back with support
  9. Push & glide in a horizontal position to or from a wall
  10. Take part in a teacher lead partner orientated game
  11. Demonstrate an understanding of pool rules
  12. Exit the water safely
     
Level 2
Overview: Developing safe entries to the water, including jumping in, basic floating, travel and rotation unaided to regain upright positions.
To complete Stage 2 of the NPTS participants will be able to complete in comfort the following skills (with or without aids, equipment or support):
  1. Jump in from poolside safely
  2. Blow bubbles a minimum of 3 times rhythmically with nose and mouth submerged
  3. Regain an upright position from the back without support
  4. Regain an upright position from the front without support
  5. Push from wall & glide on the back
  6. Push from wall & glide on the front
  7. Travel on the front for 5 metres, aids or equipment may be used
  8. Travel on the back for 5 metres, aids or equipment may be used
  9. Perform a rotation from the front to back to gain an upright position
  10. Perform a rotation from the back to the front to gain an upright position
Level 3
Overview: Developing safe entries including submersion, travel up to 10 metres on the front and back, progress rotation skills and water knowledge
  1. Jump in from the poolside and submerge
  2. Sink, push away from the wall on side and maintain a streamlined position
  3. Push & glide on the front with arms extended and log roll onto the back
  4. Travel on the front, tuck to rotate around the horizontal axis 5.to return on the back
  5. Fully submerge to pick up an object
  6. Answer correctly 3 questions on the Water Safety Code
  7. Travel 10 metres on the back
  8. Travel 10 metres on the front
Level 4
Overview: Developing the understanding of buoyancy through a range of skills, refining kicking technique for all strokes and swimming 10 metres to a given standard as direct my the ASA
Demonstrate an understanding of buoyancy
  1. Perform a tuck float for 5 seconds
  2. Perform a sequence of changing shapes (min 3) while floating on the surface
  3. Push & glide from the wall to the pool floor
  4. Kick 10 metres Backstroke
  5. Kick 10 metres Frontcrawl
  6. Kick 10 metres Butterfly
  7. Kick 10 metres Breaststroke on the front
  8. Kick 10 metres Breaststroke on the back
  9. Perform on the back a head first sculling action for 5 metres in a horizontal position
  10. Travel on back and roll in one continuous movement ontofront
  11. Travel on front and roll in one continuous movement ontoback
  12. Swim 10 metres, own choice to ASA Expected Standards
Level 5
Overview: Developing "watermanship" through sculling and treading water skills and complete rotation, also performing all strokes to the given standard as directed by the ASA.
  1. Perform a horizontal stationary scull on the back
  2. Perform a feet first sculling action for 5 metres whilst horizontal on the back
  3. Perform a sculling sequence with a partner for 30-45 seconds to include a rotation
  4. Tread water for 30 seconds
  5. Perform 3 different shaped jumps into deep water
  6. Swim 10 metres Backstroke to ASA Expected Standards
  7. Swim 10 metres Frontcrawl to ASA Expected Standards
  8. Swim 10 metres Breaststroke to ASA Expected Standards
  9. Swim 10 metres Butterfly to ASA Expected Standards
  10. Perform a handstand and hold for a minimum of 3 seconds
  11. Demonstrate an action for getting help
Level 6
Overview: Developing effective swimming skills including coordinated breathing, developing the water safety aspects and understanding of preparation for exercise.
  1. Demonstrate an understanding of preparation for exercise
  2. Sink, push off on side from the wall, glide, kick and rotate into Backstroke
  3. Sink, push off on side from the wall, glide, kick and rotate into Frontcrawl
  4. Swim 10 metres with clothes on
  5. Swim Frontcrawl to ASA Expected Standards to include at least six rhythmical breaths
  6. Swim Breaststroke to ASA Expected Standards to include at least six rhythmical breaths
  7. Swim Butterfly to ASA Expected Standards to include at least three rhythmical breaths
  8. Swim 25 metres, choice of stroke to ASA Expected Standards
  9. Perform a ‘Shout & Signal’ rescue
  10. Perform a surface dive
  11. Exit the water without using the steps
Level 7
Overview: Developing quality stroke technique up to 100 metres, incorporating skills learnt and combining them to develop a linked routine and complete successfully an obstacle course that combines a variety of skills accomplished throughout stages 1 – 7 to ASA Expected Standards on all four strokes
  1. Swim 50 metres Backstroke to ASA Expected Standards
  2. Swim 50 metres Frontcrawl to ASA Expected Standards
  3. Swim 50 metres Breaststroke to ASA Expected Standards
  4. Swim 50 metres Butterfly to ASA Expected Standards
  5. Swim 50 metres continuously using one stroke to ASA Expected Standards
  6. Swim 200 metres using a minimum of 3 different strokes to ASA Expected Standards
  7. Tread water using egg beater action for 30 seconds
  8. Complete an obstacle course (using minimum of 4 objects) with feet off the bottom throughout
Level 8
Stage (Pre-Comp):
  1. Complete a set lasting 400m(e.g. 16 x 25m) on a specified turn around time set by the coach
  2. Swim 400 metres continuously using one stroke
  3. Kick 25 metres Backstroke with/without using a board
  4. Kick 25 metres Breaststroke with/without using a board
  5. Kick 25 metres Butterfly with/without using a board
  6. Kick 25 metres Frontcrawl with/without using a board
  7. Perform a Backstroke turn from 10 metres in to 15 metres outto ASA Expected Standards
  8. Perform a Breaststroke turn from 10 metres in to 15 metres out to ASA Expected Standards
  9. Perform a Butterfly turn from 10 metres in to 15 metres out to ASA Expected Standards
  10. Perform a Frontcrawl turn from 10 metres in to 15 metres out to ASA Expected Standard
Level 9
  1. Complete a set lasting 800m(e.g. 4 x 200m) on a specified turn around time set by the coach
  2. Swim 800 metres continuously using one stroke
  3. Swim a continuous 100 metre Individual Medley using legal turns
  4. Perform a 15 metre underwater kick on the front in astreamlined position
  5. Perform a Backstroke start with butterfly kick underwater until 10 metres from the start point and complete remainder of the 25 metres
  6. Perform a Frontcrawl start underwater kick until 10 metresfrom the start point and complete the remainder of the 25 metres
  7. Perform a Butterfly start underwater kick until 10 metres from the start point and complete the remainder of the 25 metres
  8. 1Breaststroke 1 ½ pull underwater and complete remainder of the 25 metres.
Level 10
  1. Complete a set lasting 1600m(e.g. 8 x 200m) on a specified turn around time set by the coach
  2. Swim 1500 metres continuously using one stroke
  3. Perform a continuous 100 metre Individual Medley kick using a kickboard
  4. Swim a continuous 200 metre Individual Medley using legal turns
  5. Perform a 15 metre underwater Butterfly kick on the back or front in a streamlined position
  6. Perform a Frontcrawl relay takeover as an oncoming swimmer
  7. Perform a Frontcrawl relay takeover as an outgoing swimmer
